Can Lyro check in, post a tip, or correct a listing in Foursquare?

No. Every action in this toolkit reads: Search Places, Retrieve Nearby Places, Retrieve Places By ID, Retrieve Place Photos By ID, and Retrieve Place Tips. Lyro can report what Foursquare holds about a place, but nothing it does writes back to the index.

How does Lyro get venue photos or tips when the customer only gives a name?

The photo and tip actions are keyed to a Foursquare ID, not a name, so Lyro runs Search Places or Retrieve Nearby Places first, takes the FSQ ID off the matching result, and then calls Retrieve Place Photos By ID or Retrieve Place Tips with it.

When would Lyro use the nearby lookup instead of a place search?

Nearby trades precision for coverage. It returns points of interest around a location including lower-quality and newer entries that standard Place Search leaves out, so Lyro reaches for it on open-ended discovery and check-in style questions, and uses Search Places when the customer named something specific.

Will every place come back with photos and tips attached?

No. Photos and tips are user-generated, so how many exist depends on how popular and active a place is - a well-known restaurant returns plenty, a new or quiet venue may return none. Lyro answers from the listing itself in that case rather than implying coverage that is not there.
